It looks like 2015 was a very fertile year, despite the drought. The Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) received the highest number of trademark applications ever.
From the CIPC:
CIPC received the highest number of new trade mark applications in the 2015 calendar period since the existence of the South African Trade Marks Office.
For the year 2015 a total number of 37,129 new applications were received, compared to 35,542 received in 2014 and 36,101 received in 2013.
In 2010 the office for the first time exceeded the annual figure of 30,000 new trade mark applications, and the figure steadily continued to increase since then.
